Community Committee Mission

The 18b Community Committee focuses on the wellbeing and safety of our neighborhood. We believe that bringing people together to promote the welfare of our artists, creatives, and inhabitants creates the bonds that make us thrive.

Some examples of the commitment to our community include our Narcan education and distribution project, our collaboration with safety and law enforcement agencies, and our growing partnerships with medical and social service entities. Our community is stronger when we are cared for, and the Community Committee seeks to create an environment in which we can care for each other.

Have any questions or suggestions? Please reach out. We are always open to new partnerships to benefit the health and safety of our community.

Thank you,

Suzanne Roozendaal, MO
Community Committee Chair

Meet the Chair

Dr. Suzanne Roozendaal, DO leads a bit of a double life catering to two very different passions. In her professional life, she is an Emergency Medicine Physician working in one of the busiest Level I Trauma Centers in Nevada, while teaching emergency medicine residents the art of medicine. On the flip side, she is a lifelong connoisseur of cool old stuff, breathing new life into items that may otherwise be discarded and keeping history alive.

She and her husband, Brent Hoefflin, an architect working in the Arts District, own Mintless, a vintage and midcentury shop on Main Street. She also partnered with John Tovar to create Reclaim, a vendor-based rack shop supporting young entrepreneurship through a Night Market every First Friday, and with Derek Stonebarger to create Barter Beer + Mall, a beer and wine bar paired with an artist space and antique mall.

As an 18b Board Member, she's found her niche chairing the Community Committee, combining her background in medicine with her love for the neighborhood to focus on the wellbeing of the Arts District.

Overdose signs to watch for: unresponsiveness, pinpoint pupils, shallow or no breathing.

Need Narcan for your business, or want training for your team? Contact Dr. Roozendaal at [email protected].

Nevada's Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act (NRS 453C) protects those who, in good faith, administer naloxone to someone experiencing an overdose.
