NV89 (KVNV) is all about local independent music. Its discover music format joins the NPR Music network of tastemaker stations such as KCRW (Santa Monica), KUT (Austin), KEXP (Seattle), WFUV (NYC). As part of this network, they participate in Slingshot, a music program by NPR for tomorrow’s new sound. NV89 submits music artists from Nevada and surrounding areas to Slingshot for consideration, and the selected artists are promoted through NPR Music.
NV89 also hosts the Local 891, live performances in smaller, intimate shows highlight local talent. The first Local 891 began at Brew Brothers in Reno, and recently expanded into Las Vegas at ReBar in downtown LV’s Arts District with Sonia Barcelona. NV89 focuses on bridging Nevada by highlighting the music talent from the north and south.
The goal is to have several bands that we could say, “hey do you remember when …” !
