Downtown transformation: $100 million 'Mission' project approved... Las Vegas Downtown News | by Jeff Burbank | 4/13/09 The City Council has approved "The Mission" project, at $100 million a big step up and by far the most significant new development to come to the 18b Las Vegas Arts District since the creation of Arts Factory Las Vegas on Charleston Boulevard and Main Street.
The city-block-sized Mission, immediately north of the Arts Factory, is to be a new center for arts-related activities and commerce, with an eight-story parking garage with retail and banquet spaces, and a pair of two-story buildings with retail and restaurants on the ground floors and second-floor office space reserved for only “creative-type” tenants, such as theater producers, filmmakers and advertising agencies. NEA Grant Awarded | 2004 The Cultural Affairs Division with collaborating partners, Las Vegas Arts District Neighborhood Association, American Institute of Graphic Artists (AIGA) local chapter, the Las Vegas Arts Commission and First Friday merchants applied for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Grant to fund their dreams for a dynamic brand. After nearly a year of waiting, $10,000 with a $10,000 match from Cultural Affairs and another projected $5,000 from the Arts Commission was granted. A $25,000 design project!
